Fourteen year-old Artemis Bane was cursed before she was even born. Every two months, she is forced to take the shape of a savage creature- the Beast. When she turns fifteen, the Beast will fully take over- forever. She has no family- they all mysteriously died the night she was born. No friends- everyone is afraid of her. And no home- it was  destroyed.  Artemis wants to find a way to break her curse, once and for all. But will she succeed? She intends to find out before  she turns into the beast forever.

The baby stared into the water, where a gruesome face rested.

Black lips, thick and rubbery, covered its mouth. Purple hair covered half of its face and all of its body. It was missing an ear. The reflection had four legs, each one looking like it was from a different animal.

A tiger.

A bear.

A lion.

A panther.

Fangs gutted out from its mouth, shining and deadly. Blood covered them at the bottom, remnants of its murders.

Black eyes stuck an inch out from its hideous face.

The baby smiled.

The reflection smiled.

Then, the baby realized that the reflection wasn't someone else.

It was the reflection.

The baby started to cry.

The reflection cried with it.

The baby wasn't just a murderer- it was a Beast.

But it wasn't enough as it's hand sprouted from her body. Tears fell from the eyes of her lover, his eyes wide as he watched her body wither in pain. Hey dark eye were gentle a she watched his physical pain disappear, his wounds sealed shut as he snatched her closer one more time. Softly she apologized, saying words she wanted so badly to say before sealing their goodbye with a kiss. After one last smile, she disappeared into the fire below, her body dissipating into the molten flames as her words echoed into the soundless wind. "Mind telling me about that promise again?"
