Ellen Cross has the sad duty to accompany her friend and companion to the funeral of her parents. Clara's parents died when their home burned to the ground. It was located on the Galant Plantation, a major transfer point for the illegal liqueur smuggled by Ellen's employer and lover, Luke Mason.

Ellen discovers Clara's parents were murdered by a racist group. To Ellen, Clara and her family were family. Part of her organization. And to murder family is mortal offense. The 1920's gangsters versus 1920's racists in a war of attrition.

This is the second story including the transgender character Ellen Cross. It contains racist and 1920s style gangster violence.
