Leo Hawthorne is a 17 year old transgender boy trying to continue with his life in the city of Seattle. After his father, a famous musician, died 5 years ago, his family has been changed forever. Now, just him: depressed and faced with questions of identity, hate and self acceptance, and his mother: a now abusive and controlling drug addict live off of Leo's fathers left over fortune in a violent household where Leo is hurt emotionally and physically. This is until he discovers a new life in a small library a few blocks from his house. Here he finds refuge in the stories and the people of the bibliophile book club, including the owner of the shop: a 55 year old trans woman who consults Leo in his darkest of times. But, when Leo's mother learns of his new life outside of her controlling grasp he must face choices that could result in life or death.
