Bella has always lived in Forks with her dad. Her mom didn't want her because her new boyfriend wanted nothing to do with kids. Bella grew up knowing everyone in La Push. All her friends resided there. Sam Uley is her best friend and her crush. He ends up dating her friend Leah and it breaks her heart. She dates Paul Lahote until the day he and Sam go missing. Sam Uley has watched Bella while growing up. He knew she had a thing for him and he returned her feelings but he never let her know that. Instead he became a very close friend, her best friend. When he and Leah came out about dating he watched Bella's heart break in front of him. Seeing her with Paul pissed him off and made him very jealous.
