Book one in the Chapters of Fate series. 

In an ancient world of uncertainty and mystery, where monsters roam the world and magic holds together the very fibers of life, the Goddess's eye has come to rest upon a unique child, born of circumstances far beyond the comprehension of mortals, with power beyond any reckoning. This child's destiny is fraught with peril, their task insurmountable. And so to aid them, the Goddess extends her power to seven fellow youths, that they might become saviors at the child's side. 

Alec is the son of a well-respected knight under the service of King Marcus of Tour. A quiet lad with a talent for knife combat, Alec's life would remain completely normal... save for the fact that he can turn invisible at will.

When word breaks out that monsters living in the kingdom of Tour are kidnapping children, Alec accompanies his father to investigate. But the reasons behind the kidnappings will prove to be the trigger that shatters the quiet life Alec has been living for the last decade.
