Nineteen-year-old Elwing is Earendil's wife. All of her three years of marriage, she's been afraid of losing Earendil. And now an urgent summons and a last-minute voyage threaten to do just that. 

Alaytar prides himself on his solitude. Known as "He-Who-Walks-Alone", Alaytar has never fully recovered from his wife's departure. The end of the world holds healing: and a chance to reunite his family. 

A lonely king and a pricelesss jewel both contribute to the fate of the world as we know it.

This path is a massive part of her journey, and once she starts it there will be no turning around. Only looking on ahead and continuing along.
