Dick Grayson wasn't adopted by Bruce Wayne. He wasn't adopted by anyone after he ran away from the circus after his parents death. No Zucco, No Slade, No Batman. Dick just turns away from society all together. He became an assassin, he kills for money or anyone who ever does anything to a family. He's definitely not completely sane. Even some of the big villains in Gotham fear him. He goes by a new name, one that perfectly fits his persona.
