I stood there a good 2 minutes and 38 seconds (but who's counting?) and debated on whether or not I should at least talk to Di. Letting my hand drop beside my body, I decided I'd ask her in the morning and give her a chance to explain. As I'd turned around to begin my departure back to my dorm, I heard something.
A voice. But it wasn't headmistress Ross. This one was deeper. Smoother. More rich and ..man like? But it was one I recognize.
I stood in silence for a few moments before I heard the voice once more. I don't know if I'd heard it because I was searching for it or if the voice had just gotten louder because I heard it loud and clear this time. It was like my feet had been cemented into place, I couldn't move. No, I didn't want to move. But I heard shuffling coming from inside and my training went into autopilot. Swiftly, I vacated the premises and began to head back to my room. The words continued to swirl in my head, I felt dizzy and I ended up moving closer to the wall so I could lean on it and just... think.
I let everything begin to sink in, everything Diana was doing, how the headmistress hadn't been in her office the past couple of nights and most importantly, that voice. Maybe it was because I'd heard one like it but couldn't put a face to it. Maybe I was just shocked to hear a voice of a male in an all-girl school. Or more specifically, that male voice in my school. Or maybe because I had heard it again, but this time was different.
This time, it was coming from behind me.
This time, it was talking to me.
