Magic belongs to the royal bloodlines. The people of the kingdom Inyairele have never seen the royal princess before, but rumors float around towns that she was born powerless. How could that be possible? Every person of royal descent, even children produced from infidelity, had some glimpse of magic. In the kingdom of Sylvarin, the crown is not inherited by birthright alone - but earned through a sacred ritual drenched in blood and ancient power. Few dare to attempt it. Fewer still survive. The king fathered five sons, born to three different wives. Each strong, each fierce, each hungry for the throne. But the true heir was never meant to wear a crown of gold. Born last, to the queen they overlooked and underestimated, carried a secret no one expected. When the king fell, the race for power erupted in a storm of blood and betrayal - and everything changed.
