Earth has been destroyed and humanity's only hope lies in four teenagers who possess the best characteristics humanity has to offer to procreate and start a new home on the planet Keplar. 

Despite living on the spaceship Hawking for the past 17 years, Peter doesn't feel like he belongs on this mission.  He doesn't fit any of the genetic traits of Specimen #4, based on what his mentor, and abuser, Valderon, insists he should possess.  Time is also ticking for him to mate with Amelia, the girl he has been mated to be with since he was genetically engineered, however she cannot stand the sight of him.  It doesn't help that Peter has already broken the rules by sleeping with Isabelle, mated to his best friend Edwin.

Valderon is concerned that Peter is lacking the traits of Specimen #4.  If his suspicions about Peter are correct, drastic measures may need to be taken.  And the fate of humanity lies in the balance.
