Shuni complied with the snake's demands. Several times he almost got eaten. Depressed more than ever as each day passed. His will to endure had almost been beaten. He thought many times about running away, But he couldn't think of a new goal to achieve. Wasn't it better to stay and get stronger, Than be the quitter who decided to leave? Or would it better to quit and move on, Holding dreams that will never come true? Was it better to be something than nothing at all? These hard choices made Shuni feel blue. And when he got blue, Shuni looked towards the sky Watching birds freely glide through the air. With chains on his thoughts and pain in his heart, Shuni said, "Sometimes life isn't fair." This isn't a "caterpillar turns into a butterfly" cliche (well--maybe just a little--but not entirely). This is a story about a caterpillar who Nature decided would never be a butterfly, so the caterpillar did the best he could with what he had. If life hasn't turned out the way you wished it would, but you still have hope in your heart--this story is for you.

The Butterfly effect, also can be connected to the domino effect, is the theory that one slight change in time can change the entire world. It is derived from the metaphor that a butterfly flapping its wings can change the weather from a sunny sky to a horrid storm. At least, that's what I remember learning in class. It caught my eye for some reason and I paid attention even harder than usual. But I never could have predicted that I could cause not one, but many butterfly effects. If I knew I was the one responsible for saving the entire world, I would have killed myself already. But it's too late, I'm hooking on a drug and can't escape it no matter what. Funny thing is, the drug is hooked on me too. Art by edaki14
