Unknown to the inhabitants of the quiet town of Cobourg, an ancient witch is awaiting her revenge. A seemingly innocent school project brings Emma and her friends face to face with the witch. As their search reveals who the witch was, Emma pities the witch's sad life without knowledge that the witch is developing an interest in Emma too.
Emma's repressed disgust with the conventions of a small town with its jealousy, rumours and gossip turn into nightmares, hallucinations and murderous rage as the witch's dark magic nurtures Emma's contempts. Afraid of becoming a monster herself, Emma confronts the evil to save her family and friends, seeing her townspeople without their masks while learning to discard her own.
