Maria was born from a rich family. She had everything she ever wanted except her parent's love. They treated her like a puppy, only to be watched over for so long. They neglected her and that action changed her life.
Her mother neglected her when they went to the playground. That day became the worst day in her life. Why? Because she was raped at the age of 9 that same day by two men.
The two men are in jail now, but that doesn't help. She will always be scarred.
Even though Maria is 17 now she still can't get the image of the her screaming for help and the two men laughing, out of her head. Because of that she doesn't live a normal teen life. She doesn't open herself up to anybody except her best friend, Sarah.
Is that all about to change when she meets the hot and irresistible Alex? He's out there, unlike her. He's popular, unlike her.
She likes him, but brushes it off thinking only she feels that way. He likes her too and can't help to feel that attraction towards her. He wants to get to know her more than he should or she would allow.

This story is not getting the attention it deserves, so I am attempting to "re-brand" it. Maybe no one "gets" it. If you want to read about "Normal" teenagers, maybe this isn't for you, it's more complicated than that. It's about a teenager who doesn't fit it, but doesn't want to, who has the best two friends that anyone could have. Who watched his father lose his job in the Recession and then loses his home, and how he copes, especially when he learns that their new house is haunted and the ghost is in his room. Michael was an average kid, although he's always stood out. He was a school jock but also a skater whose long blond hair almost reaches his waist. When his parents lived in a house in a home owners association like all his other friends, life seemed normal. Then his father lost his job and suddenly those "friends" weren't there anymore--except for his two best friends, Short Round and Dewey. The three are skaters, good ones, who live for girls and their skateboards. They're also basically good kids who take pride in being different without paying attention to it. When Michael loses his home and his family has to move they have his back. And they are there for him when the ghost girl starts following him around. Mariah was murdered when she was just 15, her remains were never found, although no one but her and her ghost friend, Crazy Girl, know where their bodies are buried. The house Michael now lives in is the one where she lived with her family, and her old room is now his.
