"And you're lovely." He whispered back, voice equally as quiet. Harry leaned over and kissed my cheek, so light that I almost didn't feel it.
"Why lovely?" I asked.
For a while, he was silent like he tended to be when he was thinking.
"To be lovely means to be exquisitely beautiful. The word itself seems rather basic to me. But its definition tries to make it more, and that's what reminds me of you. You are exquisitely beautiful, but you're so much more than that. We need more words to describe you, June, but for now, lovely will work."

BOOK 1 OF 3 - "Violet." Harry's voice stops me in my tracks, a shiver snaking up my spine at the steady tone he always seems to carry. I slowly turn back around to face him, our eyes meeting in the dark cab, the only light coming from a street lamp above the car. "Are you al-" He starts to ask that same goddamn question. "Don't." I cut him off. "Don't you ask me that again. Okay? I don't even know you." Harry doesn't say anything and lets me open the door to get out of the car. "That cut wasn't there this morning." He states matter of factly. "What?" I duck my head back down into the cab to look at him again. "Em told me your story about how you split your lip." He looks deeply into my eyes and I'm suddenly self conscious about how attentively he's looking at me . "Unless I missed you sneaking off to play volleyball during work, that was not there before that pompous asshole boyfriend of yours showed up." My mouth falls open slightly, not knowing what to say in response to him calling me out so blatantly. Nothing he's saying is accusatory toward me, he just obviously doesn't believe a single thing I've said. And he's right. They're all lies. I shut the door in his face, my solution for not having a response. I turn around to walk toward my house, a little shaken by this interaction with a perfect stranger who saw right through my bullshit immediately. I hear Harry's car roar back to life as I attempt to unlock the front door with slightly trembling hands. The lack of sleep, drama with Johnny and the conversation I just had with Harry is proving to be too much for one day.
