Estelle Tanner's mysterious death affected everyone, in particular Amelie Cross. The two were inseparable, partners in crime, and without Estelle, Amelie finds herself at a loss. Unable to carry on alone, she begins searching for someone to fill the position of right hand man. For Amelie, the need to find a candidate for the position is impervious to all circumstances and must begin immediately. For Damien, the chance to escape the life which was given to him, but he did not want, was a glorious opportunity and one he would gladly jump for. However, when Amelie finds the security of the Initiates has been compromised and their top partners are being picked off one-by-one, she must throw out the rule book and forsake all of her training to save them all.

Hope Flynn used to love water. She never realized the power of water, or the strength of it until the accident. Now Hope knows just how dangerous water can be. Water is the reason her sister is dead, and the reason she almost died. Hope can't remember what happened the night of the tragedy, but everyone assures her she couldn't have done anything to save her sister. Juliet Price has attended Redwood High since the beginning of sophomore year, but she's never spoken to Hope, Juliet doesn't fit in with her classmates as she wasn't born rich and she didn't grow up getting everything she wanted. The only reason Juliet is at the exclusive private school is because she's living with her wealthy aunt and uncle. Juliet knows what happened to Eleanor Flynn, most of the world does. The Flynn family are very wealthy and very famous. Even though Juliet and Hope have never spoken, Juliet can tell that Hope is acting weird and she doesn't think it's entirely because Eleanor is dead. When Juliet and Hope are brought together through a class project, Juliet starts to realize that Hope won't be able to start moving on unless she finds out what happened the night her sister died, and why she can't remember it. When the two start investigating, they realize that the truth is pointing to something dark. Almost everyone attending Redwood has secrets, and they'll do what it takes to keep them private. When the truth starts to come out, Hope is left to wonder if she remembers the dreadful night and finds out she had something to do with it, will she ever forgive herself?
