When Maxon chooses America instead of Kriss to be his wife, he sends her back to Columbia with nothing but a broken heart. Kriss didn't come out of her house for weeks, trying to see where she went wrong during the competition. Her parents insist that she starts to work in the Communications Department at the local university in an attempt to get her back to her normal self.
