Magnus is a lonely warlock, living on his own in an apartment in Brooklyn, wondering why none of his loves have ever lasted. Alec is working hard, trying his hardest to balance the realisation of being gay while also trying to meet his parents expectations of being a strong Shadowhunter and head of the Institute.
One day mysterious marks start appearing on Alec's arms, and they match no runes that he had ever seen before. He tells his sister Isabelle and in her joy she explains the meaning - Alec has a soulmate. And so begins the hunt for the two star crossed lovers to finally meet.
