An epic series in the vein of HBO's Rome, following two ordinary men through extraordinary times; from West Point, through the Mexican War, into the Civil War.

Elijah Cord and Lucius Rumble swore oaths, both personal and professional. They were fighting for country, for a way of life and for family. Classmates carried more than rifles and sabers into battle. They had friendships, memories, children and wives. They had innocence lost, promises broken and glory found.

Duty, Honor, Country is history told epic and personal so we can understand what happened, but more importantly feel the heart-wrenching clash of duty, honor, country and loyalty. And realize that sometimes, the people who changed history, weren't recorded by it.

Our story starts in 1840, in Benny Havens tavern, just outside post limits of the United States Military Academy. With William Tecumseh Sherman, Cord, and Benny Havens' daughter coming together in a crucible of honor and loyalty. On post, in the West Point stables, Ulysses S. Grant and Rumble are preparing to saddle the Hell-Beast, a horse with which Grant would eventually set an academy record. On this day, all make fateful decisions that will change the course of their lives and history.

We follow these men forward to the eve of the Mexican War, tracing their steps at West Point and ranging to a plantation at Natchez on the Mississippi, Major Lee at Arlington, and Charleston, SC. We travel aboard the USS Somers and the US Navy mutiny that led to the founding of the Naval Academy at Annapolis.

We end with Grant and Rumble in New Orleans, preparing to sale to Mexico and war, and Cord with Kit Carson and Fremont at Pilot Peak in Utah during his great expedition west.

This is book 1 in the Duty, Honor, Country series. (Formerly titled West Point to Mexico)

Sometimes shit happens. Hey, it's not always your day, it's alright. One moment you're riding high, soaring above these mud-riddled plains with the king of mercs by your side, another, you're running far away from the crater he blew himself up in. You've really outdone yourself this time. W's dead, there's angel blood on your fingers and something itches to grow out of your skull. To pierce those gray curls of yours and bask in the twin moon's soft gaze. Something brewing deep within, eager to dim that halo forever and shatter your wings. A piece of you that's always been there, always hiding and growling, waiting for its moment to shine. So, hit the lights, Andy. Give it some stage time. Let yourself live a little. Throw out that Lateran jacket, put on some leather. Grow a pair of horns, befriend a fiend. Forget Laterano, forget Lungmen. Kazdel is your new home. And your new home's where you rightfully belong, you little rascal. Hellooooo people !! Here we are, a SPIN-OFF story of my "Curly Head" series, in which Andy actually went on that one job he previously ditched and got himself into quite a predicament. In this one, I'll turn the angst-meter down, I promise. W and Andy, happy times. :D This is, of course, perfectly fine as a standalone work, I think, but if you're new and wanna brush up on the lore then you can do just that! Series starts with "Goodbye Curly Head", rest is pretty straightforward. Summed up: thirteen year old boy from Laterano ships himself off to fight in the Kazdel Civil War for peacekeeping reasons, situation turns to shit at the end of his tour, forced to stay in Kazdel and make money as a merc, meets up the first W's crew at the age of sixteen, circus-slapstick follows. Ps: I'm not giving up on "Almost Green", only taking a small break and also delivering some much needed fluff-ish stuff. Tell me you thoughts in the comments, I tend to reply to every single one of them and love reading through them all! Have fun!

[Completed] Sanders Sides human au fanfic. Twin brothers Virgil and Patton Novas have moved around a lot thanks to their father's job. From their father's home country, and their birth place, of Cabo Verde to their mother's country of birth, Ireland. From Ireland to Massachusetts. From Massachusetts to Arizona. After spending several years in a stable environment they're moving again, this time not only are they leaving behind friends but also their mother's grave. Virgil has to convince his twin brother and their dad that, despite his terrible migraines and sometimes crippling anxiety, he won't go down the same road as his mother. On top of having an overprotective family he has to navigate being the new kid in his senior year of high school, making friends, falling in love, and learning how to save a life. How hard can the next nine months be? All he has to do is hold on and convince his new best friend to do the same. I do not own the characters Virgil, Patton, Roman, Remus, Deceit, Remy, or Emile Picani. They belong to the awesome, amazingly talented cinnamon roll that is Thomas Sanders. I also don't like 99% of the music and song lyrics that will make an appearance in this book. I am, however, the proud owner of the hyperactive muse (by the name of Orion who makes an appearance in here) that spawned this story into existence when he was supposed to be helping me work on my other two fan fictions and three original works. And I'm also the owner of the many side and minor background characters that may or may not get names.

*UNDERGOING EDITING AND SMALL CHANGES RANKED #1 IN #DADSBESTFRIEND TROPE My gaze was fixed on Weston, wanting to look away so he didn't see me but unable to, and so when he whipped his head in my direction, he looked me square in the eyes. I was painfully aware of how I was sitting on Dego's lap, his arm around my waist, mine around his neck. I couldn't move, couldn't breathe, and he didn't either for several time stopping seconds. Then he slowly took a step in my direction, and kept walking until he was standing directly in front of Dego and I. •~•~•~•~•~•~••~~• Two years ago Avery Blackwood's father met and married a demure Sunday school teacher, who, within a matter of months, spent his entire savings and completely wiped out everything he'd done over the years, wrapping up the whole thing by having an affair. Her father divorced the woman, but it was too late to save the families finances, and before they could even begin to get back on their feet, Daniel Blackwood is deployed to the middle east, leaving Avery with her wealthy cousins to try and acclimate to an environment foreign to the one she was raised in. The pressure builds until Avery makes the choice to leave, her destination over halfway across the country; her brothers ranch in southeastern Colorado. The only obstacles-she has fifty dollars to her name and no car, and her controlling aunt standing in the way. Influenced by a childhood of war and action movies, Avery, armed with a bowie knife and determination, simply heads out the back door and doesn't look back. She isn't expecting her envisioned trek across America to end so soon; a chance meeting with a family friend and neighbor who feels responsible for his friends daughter causes her to alter her plans. Within the few days she is with Weston Travers, she falls for him, and falls hard, but falling in love with someone ten years her senior may not have the fairytale ending every girl dreams about. A lively, yet dark and polemic retelling of the American Revolution through the unapologetic eyes of women and soldiers in the British Army, a two-time finalist in the Faulkner/Wisdom Literary Contest for the Novel and Novel-In-Progress categories. Something very different on a familiar subject. 1776 - America in Riots. Civil War. Crush it. And when finished, give the damn Americans what they want. So comes the great army, and with it, his Majesty's personal host, the Brigade of Guards, to fight a war they cannot lose. They bring their women. Obedience Gill, the "handsomest Woman on the Ration", loses her soldier husband on the crossing to America. Good riddance. "Obedience", her father named her, a child of the Great Awakening and "an Age" at 24. In truth, she's running, having lived many lives. And now, in the midst of a fierce army, she's alone. God, to be alone, even in this alien country. This strange America. This roiling, boiling America. But someone's after her, a Coldstream grenadier, Thomas Elliot, with a murderous past. In her past. To her protection comes guileless man-child, Geordie MacEachran, Third Guardsman, whose loyalty is to the Guards above all else . . . Until Obedience. And he's struck, as sure as a Rebel ball to the heart. In New York, Obedience, a tavern singer with an extraordinary voice, is noticed by the officer class, and by talent, luck, and wiles, experiences a meteoric rise, to her fame, to her peril. Geordie seeks to hold her. Elliot wants her life. But Obedience has other plans as the American rebellion fulminates into a global conflict to threaten Britain's very existence. War, sex, and power. Enlightenment and religion. Racism and sexism. Military tribes.
Jack: Book One in the Trilogy, the Battle Begins by gdorion
51 parts Complete
In Book 1, Jack conspires with friend Jeremy to undermine their racist, secessionist teacher's efforts to poison his students' minds with his benefits-of-slavery lectures. Will the students buy into it? Not if Jack has any say. The book is dedicated to my brother and to my old friend, Jack, the latter who, at 19, was killed speeding in his too-fast car, alone, in 1971. We met when I was a first grader at a Groton, Massachusetts parochial school. Jack was in second grade, I was in the first grade. One day Jack began teasing on the bus ride home so we got off at his bus stop to fight. I was little - he much bigger. He pinned me to the ground, forced me to quit. That kicked off our friendship that lasted years. Jack was a pitcher on the high school baseball team. He was so fast - somewhat wild. I was afraid to bat against him. He tried out for a professional farm team but didn't make it. He worked in the local factory and had no real career designs other than in sports which were the center of his life. Not long after his failed attempt(s) at major league baseball, he smashed into a tree at high speed on a quiet road early one morning. Jack had a 'hero complex' - needing to be the center of attention. He excelled at sports but wasn't interested in academics. He bet everything on his sports abilities that wowed neighborhood friends growing up. This story also is dedicated to both Jack and my brother, Paul, a friend of Jack's. Paul passed in January, 2016. I finally started Jack's story in 2000 when I began teaching in New York City. It dawned on me one day to transport Jack as a composite character - i.e., a character who has qualities and characteristics that Jack had but who also possessed ones he didn't have - into 1860's America. In the book, Jack becomes the hero - a status that mostly evaded him in real life. I think he would have been proud of the story. Many events are entirely fictional - some are not. All characters are fictional or partially so.
The Edge of Misery: The Mitchel Brothers Series Book Two by BritCYancey

** Picks up where The Edge of Hell (Mitchell Brothers Series Book One) left off** If there's one thing Declan Mitchell learned from watching his mama almost die from the heartbreak of losing his daddy to a war nineteen years ago, it was that a great and powerful love delivered an equally devastating heartbreak and suffering-the kind he had every intention of avoiding like the bubonic plague. And until traveling west to Idaho Territory and coming face to face with the mismatch-eyed, auburn-haired beauty, Wren McCrawdon, he believed he might succeed in carrying out his plans of never marrying. Molded by her traumatic journey west when she was twelve, twenty-four-year-old, accident-prone Wren McCrawdon's life on her family's ranch in Falcon Ridge, Idaho, is full of back-breaking work, beginning as dawn's first rays peek across the mountains and ending long after the sun sets when she can barely drag her weary bones up the stairs to her bedroom. But from the morning Declan Mitchell and his family arrive, her miserable existence becomes more bearable until tragedy strikes when all she sees are the harsh realities of loss and suffering. Concerned for Wren's safety and remembering how bitter the edge of misery was after his daddy died-Declan discovers he's willing to do anything he can to take it away from her... even if it means a marriage of convenience is the only suitable solution. There are only two problems: first, it's already apparent he's following in his mama's footsteps toward eventual heartbreak, and second he somehow has to convince Wren to agree.

Cerys Woodstock, travelling outside of Tainland for the first time in her life, craves adventure and excitement. Tainish Legate Eupheme hosts elaborate parties as a guise to obtain valuable information about the agendas of other lands, to further her own political interests. Yarazhenya, a half Cassioni, half Petrovian candle maker with a penchance for day drinking, is thrilled when her niece arrives to learn about her business in Chevelles. Callira Evarrlie, Tainish spiritualist, linguist, and a close friend of the chancellor of Chevelles, wants to share her knowledge of language and culture with the world. Nobody knows what Witwatersrander Floren Cheshiring does or why he is in Cassion. These are some of the civilian foreigners in the small city of Chevelles, there to teach, to sell, to build, to travel or for other reasons. But their presence raises suspicions among native Cassioni, wary of their intentions and technology. And, as xenophobia increases, so too do acts of violence. Enter Wynemere Brackenridge, fresh from the green countryside of Elsa, new recruit in the marine protectorate forces, a pawn in the fight for Tainish expansion, who wonders if she'll be able to handle the challenges her new life is bringing her. And Gwinael Snowberry, whose her first posting as combattant involves long treks over the Cassioni mountains, skirmishes with angry locals, and attempts to reign in her daydreaming so she can follow orders. Will a mutual understanding across cultures be achieved or will tragedy befall natives and foreigners alike? It is the land of Cassion itself which has the answer, as well as it's own lessons to teach them all. After all, as the Cassioni saying goes: "We have much to learn." (Dear potential reader: This is a medievalesque military low fantasy, with little to no supernatural elements: would love to get some feedback :))

Subject E305 is not a normal girl. At the age of two her mother left her on the streets of New York City with nothing but a box. She waited for her mother to come back, but she never did. A few days passed and nothing happened. The little girl was scared and hungry, but she never moved from her place. On the third day a van pulled up while the child was asleep in the box. The people on the van saw an opportunity and took the little girl from the streets. The people were HYDRA. They took her to their labs and when she tried to escape they would beat her. They ran test on her, a lot of test, until she became deaf. But that didn't stop them; they taught her lip reading as well as sign language. Then something happened. The girl was finally free after 9 years of imprisonment. She walked a long way until she found a city. The very city she was dumped off by her mother. She looked up and there were buildings taller than anything she had ever seen. The 11 year old started to walk around and found a corner. She sat down and rested her head on the wall. She couldn't believe it. She was finally free. Disclaimer: most characters are for marvel studios. Warning: There are a bunch of bad and inappropriate words.
