Orphan Lily Graham is down to her last shilling in Edwardian England, when she recieves a mysterious visit from a London solicitor. She is astonished to discover that she has an anonymous benefactor who wishes to send her to Dalzean House, an exclusive finishing school near Edinburgh. Lily embarks on a journey of self-discovery that will test all her wits, as she is plunged into the alien world of debutantes and heiresses, makes friends, and falls in love, and finally begins to realise that her own identity is the biggest secret of all.
