The ash, the end of the world, is approaching. From the depths of the Earth, this mysterious creature has arisen, bringing with it curious effects and beings that the planet has not seen in centuries or ever before. As the Horsemen, Demon Lords, Archangels, mankind, and many others struggle to escape the ash's grasp, they also fight to comprehend its existence and the havoc that it has brought.

Following the leadership and guidance of Andrew, the Horsemen find it difficult to adjust to their new, limited human abilities. Alooc, a Demon Lord, hides among the humans, caring for Jack-Jack along the way. And Jophiel, the fire Archangel and protector of the Tree of Life, begins to experience things he has never before....

All as the ash grows stronger.

Her greatest gift was us, and we destroyed it. Thousands of years ago, humanity's embers had dimmed and choked on its own fire. Known as the Age of Ash, it marked the end of an era, and a new beginning. Humans now wage a war to eradicate a fierce beast race known as the Anshelm, and for three thousand years the two major powers-Humanity's United Ginuvian Front, and the Anshelmic Legion-churned bodies in an endless cycle of death called the Maethi. Now, a precarious ceasefire to the Maethi called by the Ginuvians has lasted for a hundred years, with rumours of a peace treaty in the winds. However, external powers work in secret, putting the wheels of war in motion once again, bent on tipping the scales in one's favour. Caught in the centre of the resurgent war and hunted by two powers, a simple Ginuvian farmer awakens within the Anshelm territories of Folkvang and searches for a myth that could bring peace, or eradicate humanity and Anshelm life altogether. A spellsword forced to the frontline within the Anshelmic Legion nears the end of his ten-year service and joins the Mancers' division in lieu of freedom to protect his old battalion and lover; a noble girl leads a secret court of royals beyond the Southern deserts of Ginuvia after a brush with death; a man's search for a lost love leads him beyond enemy territory; and old gods work in plain sight to be reborn. It is through flesh, fur, or the alabaster of bone that the noblest deed could be done in her name: to live and love as if we were kin, and of one kind.
A Fifth Daughter [Book 1: The Dragon Rider] by JJHays
30 parts Complete
A MODERN MEDIEVAL FANTASY #3 in Fantasy |Book 1 of the Fifth Daughter Trilogy| When darkness arises and the world of Fantasy is in danger of being destroyed, the Dragon Riders are the first to show up. Fire and fang, sword and shaft, meet the enemy head on and the wars don't end until the enemy is disbanded. It's not a pretty business, but it must be done to secure the lives of every creature within Fantasy. There are two Rider schools - over thousands of Riders and dragons - and Smoke Green is one of them, no matter how much she dislikes the idea and the heights. Her fate has been chosen, even if she doesn't want it. With a vacant father, a mother who has too many secrets, four older sisters, an older brother, and a three minute older, annoying twin brother, Smoke isn't expected to be much more than a hometown girl of Folklore; who will get a boring desk job and never leave home. But then the Sage of the Burrows proclaims her a Dragon Rider and a Fifth Daughter and Smoke's life changes stories - literally. Moving from Folklore to Legend, Smoke is taught that fears can be conquered and villains do have a hunger for power. She also learns she might just have the power this villain is after. She makes friends: Something she didn't know she could do, she finds her dragon: Someone she didn't know even existed, and she learns her past: Something she didn't know was so complicated. But when rebellions begin to break out across the globe; the world of Fantasy is once again put in danger and the Dragon Riders might not be able to save their home this time around. Especially, when the enemy is from one of their own royal families; once thought incinerated, and his accomplice might just be Smoke's long thought dead father. In this first book of the Fifth Daughter Trilogy, J.J. wants you to forget everything you think you know of mythology and open your mind to a new kind of fantasy.
