“Have you ever heard stories of monsters at night? Or the Boogeyman? Scary creatures that you think aren’t real?” Shakily, I nodded my head, thinking of the eyes I always saw that were watching me. The voices of monsters nearby who thought of me and only me. How evil they sounded. “What if I told you they were real? Would you believe me?” Another shaky nod. “What if I told you that you can defeat them?” 

“But how?”

“Come with me. I can show you a world you never thought could exist. I’ll help you master your powers and defeat the monsters. As long as you just say yes, I can change your life as you know it.” I paused, thinking for a moment. For the second time today, he offered me his hand.

She smeared some of the blood onto my puffy cheeks with a warm beaten and calloused hand. "You're gonna be okay," she assured me. More tears fell from her eyes. I looked closer into her grayish, I think, eyes. They had evil tucked beneath fear in them. I don't know what she means, yet her words mean the world to me at this very moment: 4 minutes ago, I was born.
