The girl popped up from the tank opening, sealing the door over it. She stared at me, as if she was equally fascinated with me as I was with her. Well, more like what she was. In a near future society, America has begun the genetic experimentation on people and animals to create and sell Gen Mods: genetically modified organisms that are designed after fantastical and mythological beasts. But to Kairi, it's apparent that Gen Mods are worth nothing more than a goldfish to the people who own them. Being a mermaid, she has been cast aside and dehumanized time and again throughout her life. But then, a boy named Keaton walks into her life. He treats her as an equal and she soon finds herself falling for him. But he knows something she doesn't about the fate of Gen Mods everywhere. Can he be the one to save her?
