Losing his marbles symbolizes the loss of something very dear to him and shows the harsh and graphic reality of what loss, if not dealt with in a healthy way, can drive us as humans to do.

Throughout life, everyone saves something up. However, this book is not going to be about our savings but our life-long losses. This is a book of lost things. It is partly autobiographical, but most of it is generalising. Because of the topic, it may seem depressive. Partially it is. Again, we are talking about losses.
