Harper Abbott has been treated differently her whole life, and she hates it. Everyone has always treated her as if she was a child. The only way she found solitude, the only time she felt as if she were herself, was when she was painting. It made her feel free, in the life that she was trapped in.

Theodosia Barrett just turned eighteen, and despite still being in senior year, she lives alone. Her parents hated her for who she was, and they disowned her for it. So she moved away and lived alone. Only now is she herself, for though she wasn't trapped in her life, she was trapped in her own body.

When the two meet, it's not surprising that they understand each other. They find themselves confiding in each other, and slowly falling in love.
