Learning to live beyond survival by cheyannewindle
24 parts Complete Mature
Harper grew up in the foster care system, learning early that love could be temporary and anger could feel safer than sadness. By seventeen she was working full-time, surviving on five dollars and self-reliance, while everyone else her age was out living freely. Unlearning Survival is the story of what happens after survival mode stops working. It's about confronting anger, setting boundaries, and learning how to give yourself the care no one else taught you. This story is based on my own lived experiences. Some names, locations, and identifying details have been changed to protect the privacy of those involved. Certain events are written from memory, which may differ from how others remember them. Every emotion, experience, and truth shared here comes from my perspective from what I lived, felt, and saw. My intention is not to harm or blame anyone, but to give voice to the child I once was and to others who have lived through similar experiences. Thank you for reading my story with kindness and respect. Through honesty and reflection, Harper shares how childhood pain shaped her reactions, her relationships, and her view of love and how she's learning to turn that fire into calm. Her voice is raw but hopeful, revealing that growth isn't about perfection. It's about choosing peace, even when chaos feels familiar. This is a story for anyone who's ever been called "too much," anyone who's had to grow up too soon, and anyone learning that healing isn't pretty but it's possible.

TW: this book may contain mentions of violence and of suicide. DISCLAIMER #1: I wrote this story when I was a teen and while some mental disorders are the focal point, they may not be accurate representations as I was far from being a psychologist. There are several things Lynn doesn't quite get about the world she lives in, which makes it harder for her to figure herself out. She is not your average teenager. She's young, intelligent, though something about her is off by now. Everyone is quick to misjudge and point fingers, everything and everyone is so corrupted that she's afraid she'll lose herself among a bunch of wandering, empty souls. Therapy can only help so much, depression is hard to die, and in Lynn's case it's caused solely by the fact she doesn't 'fit in'. She can't really find her place in the world. But there's something really special about her; Her dreams are haunted by a wonderful, mystical place. No one understands her, they think she's off her rocker, that she needs to cut her childish daydreams. But Lynn knows deep in her heart that place really exists, and she'll do anything to find it, with the help of some new found friends. There's only one thing she must do: Keep an open mind, it brings open hearts and open eyes. -- DISCLAIMER #2 This fanfiction is inspired to Mind Over Matter by Pvris and their lyrics in general. All you read here is fiction. every reference to real events or people is purely coincidental. I do not own the songs featured in the book. After deciding she no longer wants help, Jules escapes the psychiatric ward; resulting in her attempting to take her own life. Her life has led her down the path of having to recover from not only the torturous eating disorder, but the addictive self harm and torment of the suicidal ideation. Let's just hope Jules gets her happy ending... ~ "GET OFF ME! GET THE HELL OFF ME! I DON'T LIKE BEING TOUCHED! GET THE FUCK OFF ME. TOM PLEASE HELP ME. TOM! PLEASE GET THEM OFF ME. I'M SO SCARED!" Jules's fragile body was making a forceful connection with the cold and unsympathetic ground. Her bloodline exiting and tainting her body and all of the surroundings. Her painful and emotional screams echoed the white corridor, while Jules's body shook and shivered, and dizzy spells with blurry covered eyes; forced her body and mind to experience a feeling of disconnection. The fit of fear that swirled in the pit of Jules's stomach made her head jolt violently side to side, along with front and back; causing her forehead to strike the floor. ~TW: Eating disorder, suicide and self harm mentioned throughout~

This book might not make since at some points. This book does go a bit fast. There is NO HAPPY ENDING. *************** "Wait honey stop!" The lady yelled, but I wasn't gonna stop. I headed for the front door and before I could push it open I felt arms wrap around my waist "Stop" I kept thrashing in his arms "Come on stop, your gonna hurt yourself more" I didn't listen I just kept trying "Keep her arm as still as you can!" Someone yelled and I felt hands grab my right arm and then something prick my skin "Just stop!" Slowly I collapsed in their arms and my eyes shut. Not how this was meant to happen
