Sixteen- year old, Lily Tanner longs for normalcy. Instead of celebrating her birthday with family and friends, she finds herself alone and in the company of a thirty-eight special and a bottle of whiskey. With the southern half of the United States under government quarantine, Lily is forced from her home and on the run. 

     In a life and death struggle, Lily winds up stumbling into the arms of her long- time crush, Jace Wade. When Jace and his brother, Jed save Lily's life, they welcome her into their group with open arms but circumstances soon change. Now, not only does Lily have to worry about the monsters hunting the living, but also the people she thought were her friends. 

     When defenses are breached, she finds herself running once again. Only this time, she's not alone. With the promise of safety awaiting in the small town of Rumstat, Virginia, the group prepares to make the treacherous journey across zombie infested territory in three days' time but first, they must manage to steer clear of the undead that currently outnumber the living. 

     Will Lily and the group reach Rumstat in time?  Will the attraction between Jace and Lily have the chance to blossom... or will she finally find herself turning into the very thing she fears the most?
