Izuku didn't want to be a hero.
His siblings were already making names for themselves, graduating from U.A. High School and participating in heroic activities. His quirk, appearing as early as it had, was perfectly suited to match those of the villains and make a change in world. But every time he used it, something was breaking inside of him.
He just wanted for everyone around him to be happy, even if that meant sacrificing himself. He didn't want to be a hero. He didn't.
