In the summer of 1985 in northern Italy, Elle permley (Barbara palvin a precocious 17 year old young lady spends her days in her family's 17th century transcribing and playing classical music, reading, and flirting with her friend marcel (Noah centineo).
While Elle's sophistication and intellectual gifts suggests she's already a full fledged adult, there is much that yet remained innocent and uniformed about her, particularly about matters of the heart. One day, Oliver (the young Leonardo DiCaprio), a 24 year old American college graduate student working on a doctorate, arrives as their families annual summer intern tasked with helping Elle's father.

Amid the sun drenched splendor of the setting, Elle and Oliver discover the heady beauty of awakening desire over the course of summer that will alter their lives forever.
