They said he was an affront to mankind. Unnatural. They said he was dangerous to us and he needed to be taken. At first I didn't understand; now I do.'
Laura thinks she is one of the utmost ordinary of people. She is 17, the twin sister of Lucas. Lucas was taken but she was not. Her life alone is pretty ordinary. Everyday is an almost perfect repeat of the day before. High school, home, homework, eat, bed. On vacation she lounged at home and did pretty much nothing. Her family don't go anywhere much with her mother's condition and her father being a workaholic.
Well, it turns out she isn't normal. On a short dark day, Laura felt something buzz within her. She was unprepared for any of it. It took her by surprise when she burst.

She escapes another attack by jumping through a portal to the alternate dimension, much to the chagrin of her protector. As if managing without electricity, cars, and phones on the more Edwardian world weren't enough stress; she finally meets her long-absent father, a scientist in the top-secret field of Trans-Dimensional Travel.
