Because I'm A Black Poet is an anthology I started writing in my final year in high school. It speaks about my personal experiences. The word 'Black' in the title is ambiguous, it is both black, as in dark or morbid as well as my ethnicity. A lot of challenges and insecurities I dealt with were because of being as dark as I am and depression-prone. I found it most difficult to relate to my peers or anyone at that time. My year had been a flood of drugs, sexual experiences, pressure and coming to terms with my sexuality, as well as seeing it affect other people more than it did me.
I really hope a lot of you guys can relate to my poetry and maybe even find comfort in it. LGBTQ+ and all you black girls, this one's for you!
