"Please...not him. Anyone but him..." My voice trailed off into a whimper. I looked up at the Commander. He had no sympathy in his dark eyes. He didn't say a word. Just raised his gun. I looked away. I couldn't bear to see this. I heard a gunshot and a body slump to the floor. An awful sound mixed with sobs came out of me. Nothing would fix this whole in my heart....ever...

There was no electricity, and there was no way for the storm Sirens to be sounding, yet they were. The entire Town was awake; everyone had a weapon. They had grabbed guns, knives, swords, and bats if they could be wielded and used for self-defense; Renee aimed her rifle at the trees, looking desperately for an explanation. Renee could feel her heart jump into her throat. Her face went pale; they were here. They had found the Town. Terror and panic soon swept Huntingtown; everyone knew what those monsters could do. After all, they did conquer the planet and impose the "choosing." Huntingtown was created hoping that its isolation in a cold climate would keep the Predators away, but it didn't. A voice came over those speakers. A male voice Gruff and laced with a growl. It was almost as if whoever was speaking was annoyed and angry. "Although I have enjoyed seeing your little Town outmaneuver many hunters. I am afraid this is where your little games end. However, I will give you a chance to keep your freedom. A hunt. You will be red by your best hunter, Renee Madison." Renee felt her blood go cold as she stared wide-eyed at the ship. She was unknowingly dropping her gun at the news. " she will be your leader; she will be my prize. You have a time advantage. Go!" The ship took off, looking for a place to land, all while the news sank into the Town's residence. Renee had known she had fucked up when she fired at one of those predators and hit him. She had proven herself worthy of the hunt. Now she has to face the consequences, not only her but her entire Town had to. Renee had to win this hunt; the fate of her Town depended on it.

He took a frightening step forward so now his face was only inches from my face, even with his height, making my breath hitch in my throat. I could no longer breath. I heard the jealousy beyond anything. That was what clouded over everything. "N-no," I stuttered. I'm angry to admit I was scared. How he towered over me didn't make it any better. Standing proudly at maybe a 6'4 or 6'5. While I stood at a 5'5. He scanned my face trying to look for any sign of me lying. And when he backed up I knew he couldn't find one because what I said was indeed true. To be honest there was only him. And it seems like that is what it will always be. The all famous gang leader and tough girl, cross paths. He hates disrespect and that's what she's all about. How do you think this will all play out in the end?

I've mixed a fantasy, based on present-day Earth, with plenty of graphic horror and wrapped it all up within a world driven by the technological advancements that only can be obtained from millions of years of civilation. A small group of strangers find themselves surviving in a decimated world. It's bad enough to be stranded in a no-name town, but things become surreal when you realize the vast majority of humanity has died...it becomes terrifying when you realize you aren't that lucky to be alive. "Survivor's Guilt" isn't a thing when you find yourself the sole food source for an entire group of beings that no longer need to hide in the shadows. Man is no longer at the top of the food chain...they are now the cattle.
