Castiel is basically the kid no one wants to be around. The emo, But smart, and depressed kid was very close to death from a beating from his father after getting thrown out, after he found that he was gay.
He sang the same lyric from the song 'damaged' every night, hoping it would bring him luck. The next day, need less to say, a kid, finally took notice.
Of all people.
Dean frickin Winchester.
