Laurel always had a sense of magic and wonder, but it was squashed out of her by her overly religious upbringing. As an adult, she realizes that God is not who she always thought and begins therapy to help her work through the spiritual traumas she had experienced. She begins to find her true self again as she works in her garden. She begins meeting the Goddess within.

Her therapist, Glenda, sends her on a week-long backpacking trip. Daphne meets several magical woodland creatures as she goes, ultimately learning that she is the reincarnated soul of the Goddess Daphne, daughter of the River God Ladon who was turned into a Laurel Tree.

Her journey teaches her about her true self and how important having a connection with Mother Earth and her divine ancestors is for a well-lived life.
