Heroes, a small town that is mostly filled with villains. Surrounded by a world that is developing and accepting, it is ignoring. Only obsessed with its traditional white, Christian, straight ways with no room for difference. Elizabeth, a bisexual Muslim girl, and her family move into this town not realizing what it holds. Her family goes into downtown to work, which is a diverse city, so they never know the pain that Elizabeth goes through at a school that can't handle anything different. Throughout 8th grade, she endures the hardships of a discriminative world. Well, a city that doesn't know how to grow up.
