The Staten Island High School Marching Band got major funding cuts the past year. With no help from anyone, it's up to them to keep the program from shutting down.
Drum Major John Laurens decides the best thing for them is to outplay every other band in New York and bring pride to their school through football games, competitions, social media, and parades. But with so many broken instruments, tattered flags, and new freshmen, it seems like an impossible task to complete.
He just hopes they can pull it together.

I live in Alabama. My school is medium-sized and I'm not sure what schools in NYC are like, despite research on it. I'm estimating they're packed; about 1,000 kids per school. Usually, where I live, 1/8 of the kids are in their band. That's 188.
So... The schools in this particular story shall be fictional. Any names of actual schools are a total coincidence, and if any New Yorkers actually know anything, PLEASE PM or comment so I can adjust numbers.

A Memoir from the Band Room
The life of a High School band department is full of trials and tribulations that people not in the programs don't hear of or don't think about. The Battle of the Bands ✓
He took a step closer, the smirk not leaving his face as he could sense my irritation. "I've been looking forward to this for far too long," he laughed, licking his lips.
