"You okay there," he paused trying to remember my name. "Brianne, but you can call me Bri. Everyone else here does," I answered with confidence I didn't know I had. I took his hand and he helped me up off the ground. "Well then Bri, my name is Ryker, but you can just call me the man of your dreams," he joked. I laughed with him and continued walking up the path being careful to not slip again. I felt his arm go around my waist and I looked up at him surprised. "Can't let you slip again, Bri," he chuckled, looking down at me. Was Ryker Stafford flirting with me? I pondered. As soon as the idea appeared in my head I shook it out thinking it was completely insane. But, I couldn't shake the fact that he still had his arm around me.  The sound of crashing water reached my ears and I noticed that everyone up ahead had stopped walking. Ryker and I picked up our pace to meet them. As we got closer, the sound increased in volume. I looked over the ledge with them and saw a thirty-foot waterfall. The beautiful view took my breath away more than the hike had. "So do we walk back down now?" I asked Mel who was standing dangerously close to the edge. "Nope," she replied simply, with a mischievous glint in her eyes, "Now, we jump." *********** Brianne Carter, Junior at Sanibel High, loser, loner, and as of recently...single. "The moon's really beautiful, if you think about it," I blurted. "Yeah?" he asked, mild amusement and curiosity mingling in his voice. "Yeah," I confirmed. "It's just- there's something about the moon that's ethereal. I don't really know how to describe it, but it's a constant in life. You can't always see it, but you have to trust that it's out there somewhere. And when you can see it, it's all bright and shiny and overcomes the darkness." I paused, searching for the right words. "I don't know. I guess it's a reminder that there are good things out there, even if you can't see them... And it's cool to think that someone hundreds of miles away is staring at the exact same moon as you. It makes me feel not so alone in life." Turning my head, I saw him staring at me intently with a thoughtful look on his face. "Too deep for a Friday night?" I laughed nervously, feeling my face grow hot. And this was precisely why I didn't go to parties. He shook his head and seemed to snap out of his daze. "It was deep in a good way." *** SHE was quiet & left out.
