Cottonwood Hills is the stereotypical small Kansas town. It's poor, quiet, and surrounded by grasslands on most sides. Sheriff Marcus Avery likes to keep it that way. The most crime they'd had there in years was last year's gas can scandal, and that was caused by an old woman who thought it was cans of cat food. The three person police department was still trying to figure out how she did that.

Then in 1928 everything changed. A headless corpse was found in shallow grave on the outskirts of town. Together Sheriff Marcus Avery and the rest of his town try to solve the mystery and end up uncovering so much more.

But WHAT do they uncover?
WHO commited the murder?
And will Cottonwood Hills ever be the same?
