In 1964, twenty-eight year old, Gale Williams, investigates the paranormal as her career. She has travelled all over the United States and has seen everything paranormal, until she receives a call from the Oak Ridge Psychiatric Hospital in northern Maine. When Gale arrives, she meets a ten-year-old girl named, Karin, who the staff fear to have under their care.

Karin has a friend that no one else can see, but can only hear and sense when they near her. She reveals secrets of the hospital to Gale that no one else knows. Soon, strange events begin to take place, forcing Gale to uncover a dark secret that involves Karin's unseen friend; perhaps her friend isn't the real threat after all.
