The year is 1935. (Well, for the most part, it is.) After his sister is executed by the Soviet Union's secret police, 18-year-old Devid Dmitriev Lachov decides to flee the country to live a secluded life in Canada. Along the way, he meets a beautiful girl also seeking a new life. Her whole life, she has been treated as nothing more than a rare weapon; isolated from society for her monstrous power. But with Devid, she learns more of the world: how beautiful and how cruel it truly is. Together they face many trials and tribulations on their way to their new home. All the while she learns how to read, how to write, how act like the rest, but most importantly, she learns how to love.
