A bastard, an alcoholic and a murderer - all have committed an equivalent crime.

***

Layne Marks has always been a failure in the eyes of his family. The black sheep in the shadow of his more successful brother. At twenty-six, he still can't keep a stable job nor accommodation. Just another average person anywhere else in the world - but not in Eumain.

In Eumain, there is no place left for imperfection. Here, a homeless person and a bank robber will both receive the same punishment - they will be declared as Rejects and taken away, never to be seen again. The citizens can only guess what will happen to them.

One widespread rumour has it, that the Rejects are exiled into a remote, long-abandoned land, not fit for anything else - just like themselves. There, all the criminals of different degrees, have to depend on each other in order to survive in this harsh and dangerous place, infested with never before seen beasts.

Layne Marks has always been reminded that it was only a matter of time before he would cross the line of what was seen as not perfect enough to live in Eumain.

"I can't be with you." I won't let them take the one good thing in my life. "Yes, you can Davis." Just one touch from him and it feels like anything can happen. I can be anyone, but that's not reality. If I get too close to him they could hurt him, even kill him. I won't let that happen. "You don't understand." "Then make me understand, damn it!" The anger in his tone hurts, but I'm doing this to him...to us. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." I'm not good for you. I'm not good for anyone. I have to go before they know. They can't know! "If something is wrong then tell me. We'll fix this." It can't be fixed. I can't be fixed! You can't fix what's completely broken. "Goodbye Liam." "No!" His lips land on mine and I wish that could fix everything, but I kiss him back with all I can for one last time. When I pull away, I run out without looking back. It's for the best. I'll do anything to keep him safe even if it kills me. Sold into the world of child traffickers at a young age, Davis doesn't know any other type of life. Hell, he doesn't even remember his real name. Doing what his owners order him to do or pay the consequences. That is until he meets Liam Freeman. A handsome Australian who he just stumbled upon in a bar. One meeting with him and Davis wants more...a real chance at life. Will he ever be able to get away from the life he's only ever known? Exile: The Book of Ever by JamesCormier

Centuries after the Fall, the United States has been wiped away. The crumbling remains of the great American empire are home now only to savage, lawless tribes and packs of ravening Damned-the twisted children of the apocalypse. Most of those few who survived humanity's destruction spend their short lives in a violent struggle for survival. But some light still flickers in the darkness: the Blessed of Bountiful live in seclusion, relying on walls both physical and spiritual to protect them from the Desolation that their world has become. Among them are the Saints, those few men and women born with superhuman abilities that the Blessed see as gifts from God. The violent apostate tribes of the Northeast Kingdom have always been a danger, but up until recently its small size and the vigilance of its people have made Bountiful an unappealing target. As attacks on the community grow harsher and more frequent, however, even the steadfast Blessed are forced to start preparing for the worst. With her home's very existence threatened, seventeen year old Ever Oaks, a Saint with the power to heal, is forced to make a difficult choice, one that may come to define her people's future... Exile was a semi-finalist in Mark Lawrence's Great Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off (#SPFBO). Fantasy Faction said it was "extremely cool," and Bookish Lifestyle called it "more than just a story, a journey and an experience." When I'm asked about it, I often describe it as "X-Men meets The Walking Dead." In addition to reading it here for free, you can buy Exile in e-book or paperback on Amazon.com.
