The story takes place in a world where magic is the most important thing in the world. People who possess magical powers are called "Haze" while those people who are completely 'empty' or does not possess any magical powers are called "Posers". The story revolves around a first year highschool boy named Layato Haruzaki or nicknamed as Light, is a kind and smart boy who doesn't want any attention from other people. The thing is that he is a Poser. He was enrolled by his foster parents in Cloud Academy, a prestigious school for Hazes. Will he be able to keep up his low profile with his classmates knowing that he doesn't possess any magical power?

Although the world appeared to be normal, one day changes occurred. The 'New Generation' was formed. Young children moving toward highschool started developing abilities. These abilities were the same or shared with gods and mythical creatures. For example one had the abilities of Zeus able to produce lightning, and so on. These were called the 'Irregulars', all sent to 'Sacred High', a highschool created specially for them. This however is not a normal school, as there are no adults around to lead anything. It is run by the students, mainly the Student Council, and forms a battle for survival, survival of the fittest. One day, the supervisors on the outside found something different ... Unfortunately, this causes many problems for his social life since his family's reputation precedes him and makes it so no one will talk with him. He is worried it will make his greatest fear come true. He is terrified he is on the path to becoming evil like his parents. Then, one day at school he gets an invitation from Cassiopeia's School for the Gifted. Sure he's heard of it, but only in rumors. The school is just for magical creatures to learn more about themselves and their history. It was made over three hundred years ago and still run by a fairy named Cassiopea and her daughter Cassia. Arion is excited to go because his parents refuse to teach him anything about other magical creatures other than dark magic. They believe it is irrelevant for him to know because they think he will take over the world one day. And why should a leader know anything about his subjects? Arion convinces his parents that if he goes to the school he can do recon on the other magical people so he can learn about them and make it easier for him to take over. With no friends, no siblings, and a very negative outlook on life, he heads to Cassiopeia's School for the Gifted.
