The town of Belltou rarely meets conflict or disruption thanks to the efforts of the Belltou Vanguard, an organisation of self appointed warriors to defend the town from threats. However, that is changed when Artemis Vesper, the newest member of the vanguard, ignores the decades old warning of her ancestors and opens a strange box. This act unleashes a curse upon Artemis; she must forever be followed by the demon Azrael, who will consistently attempt to coach her into committing horrible deeds. Regretful of her actions, Artemis decides to leave her home and locate a way to undo the curse and seal Azrael away once again. Artemis forms an unlikely band of fellow travellers along the way; she must cooperate with Azrael, Turlon, Ursula, Stephen, Lilith, Takahaki, MJ, Emerson, Eliza, Tohru and Elyan to achieve her goal.
Unbeknownst to the group, they will become involved in many life threatening situations and meet friend and foe during their quest towards the mysterious city of sand.
