At least for Joseph, of course. He had always been told he was special, though he felt the opposite of it.
What's so special about him? Who is he? Not being able to connect well with people as well as himself, he retreats to his room and falls asleep. He escapes from his confusing and dangerous reality and into his dreams. And in this dream world where his subconsciousness lies, maybe then can he learn the truth about himself.
And when he finally learns who he is, will he be satisfied?
Escape from reality is futile. And sooner or later, he'll have to go back to his life. He'll have to muster the courage to face reality.
