For her safety and protection from the threats of the Witches of the French of Quarter, an infant Hope Mikaelson is sent away to live with her Aunt Rebekah. Her Father, Niklaus vowed to strike down anyone who had ever threatened his daughter. He wages a war and lives are lost, including Hayley, Hope's Mother. Grief stricken and riddled with guilt and shame, Niklaus vanishes, not wanting to be found, afraid to ever look his Daughter in the eyes knowing he was the one responsible for her Mother's death. Rebekah soon finds herself raising the child as her own, being that she was now parentless. Her resentment towards her Brother grew stronger as she watched Hope grow into a beautiful young girl and hated that Niklaus made no effort to see her. When Hope enters her teen years, she experiences a trauma that no girl should ever have to experience. Violated, humiliated and angry, a darkness begins to lurk within Hope. Rebekah is left feeling helpless and calls upon the rest of her siblings to revive Hope before the evil within, consumes her.
