Valerie Lytton has been known as many things. The eldest princess, heir to the throne, a prize to be won from her father. But now, during the most tragic time in her kingdoms history, a new title has arisen for Valerie. The title of an orphan, of the girl whose father went missing. The only daughter of the king left alone to spend her last remaining year as princess, without guidance.
She is left in the hands of the steward, basically the "Second in command" Everyone pities the poor child.

They say that the steward is crazy.
Not aloud of course, the king has eyes and ears everywhere. It's not safe anymore, not for the royals, the commoners, the nobles. No one.

So, Valerie is going to find the wizard and get him to give her a quest. Then, she'll finally show the High Council she can be a knight AND a princess. But, even all of Valerie's tutoring could not have prepared her for the real world and the dangers it holds. Thankfully, her best friend finds her and helps her on her way. And, for a minstrel, Jonathan sure has some handy hidden talents. The road to the wizard is long and arduous, and there are many lessons to be learnt along the way. But, will he grant her wish? For as long as she can remember Dawn has wanted to be the princess, her sister Luna doesn't care what she becomes, as long as she isn't the centre of attention. Unfortunately, things go awry when Luna becomes the princess and Dawn is forced to be a common peasant, much to her disgust. Both girls end up running away from their roles. What was supposed to be a fairy-tale has gone horribly wrong, and to make things worse something is now hunting them...
