Ellie Fairmont is a nerd. She loves books, Netflix, movies and video games (even though she isn't that good...) and considers herself a member of the National Sarcasm Society. She does her best not to get involved into drama, and she's been doing an extremely good job at it.

However, when someone releases the anonymous messaging app Hills Hotline, meant for students to communicate (we know what they mean by, "communicate") with each other at Hills High School, Ellie soon finds herself in a world of jokes, emotional roller coasters, and the last person she expected herself to socialize with: her popular, trouble-making neighbor, Jason River
