Six of the seven gods that once ruled the land are dead. Slaughtered by one of their own kind, these six deities fought alongside mankind in a desperate battle for survival. Sera shares a birthday with August, and fears the Death Mark more than the Pale King himself. As a lowly farm girl and the sole provider for her family, being marked would mean certain starvation for her loved ones. Fate and magic intertwine to give these two a birthday they will never forget, forcing them to flee from their homes in search of an ancient magic.
