This rhyming poem tells the folklore of the eve of Chinese New Year. In China, this is a legend that is told to kids to explain the traditions of Chinese New Year. It's about a monster who terrorizes the ancient Chinese village and how the villagers learned how to scare the monster away. It's an interesting piece of poetry that allows you to learn about the traditions and culture of ancient China.
Fun fact: This legend was originally in Chinese, but I translated it into English since I am bilingual in both Chinese and English!
