Two years ago Hazel's entire world was ripped apart when her father was murdered and her best friend, Maisie, disappeared. With all the varied gifts that Alderdale's supernatural population had to offer, not one could determine what had happened that night. Over the summer Hazel has been haunted by something that looks and sounds like Maisie, but is altogether demonic in nature, and on the first day of school there Maisie is - Real. Alive. Home. But whatever it is that took Maisie's shape in Hazel's mind doesn't go away, and plans to wreak havoc across Alderdale, unless Hazel and her friends can find a way to stop it.
