The novel Los Angelinos

A cybercriminal repents with maturity, though she is followed by her professional life of crime when she ascends in the 'straight' world. She must weigh the opportunities for love against exposure and capture. A philanthropists' daughter grows to become a lawyer corrupted by exposure to crime and criminals. She must rationalize her greed and power-lust against her moral predisposition. In a town as small as Los Angeles, these two were bound to meet.

 

Los Angelinos has poverty, homelessness, orphans, wealth, deceit, inheritance of wealth, charity, love and loss, crime, metropolitan and suburban life, mystery, and romance. It is set in and about Los Angeles between roughly 1985 and 2030. The rise of social phenomena concomitant with computer networking such as various cybercrimes, social networks, and phone app-based services are integral to the plot. The settings are real and details are fictionalized from real local stories familiar to Angelinos.

 

The character of the philanthropists' daughter descends morally by practice of law and consequential contact with criminals, while the heroine of the story, the cybercriminal, ascends morally to try to leave her life of crime behind so she can gain love.

Her struggles to attain any form of normalcy in her life soon ebbs away when her life is turned upside down as she is expected to entertain a guest she despises. She finds herself in relationships she knows her father would never approve of and worst of all, she starts receiving mysterious letters from an unknown source. She follows the promptings and instructions of these strange letters as they promise to lead her to some important information about a ground breaking truth that's been hidden from her. The only problem is, the letters she guards and hopes will answer all her burning questions ends up being the very thing that endangers her the most.
